Why is it said that cemented carbide molds have high hardness and good wear resistance?

Molds are used very frequently in industrial production. Metal or non-metal materials are made into tools with specific shapes and sizes by pressing machines under the action of external force. Such tools are called dies. The use of cemented carbide material is called cemented carbide mold.
Cemented carbide molds are often: cold heading dies, cold stamping dies, wire drawing dies, hexagonal dies, spiral dies, etc. The cemented carbide itself has high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance and corrosion resistance, so the cemented carbide mold has a series of excellent properties and has the following characteristics:
1. High wear resistance. The hard alloy mold material has high wear resistance, which can ensure that the drawing mold can work for a long time under any degree of deformation, and ensure that the dimensions of the standard parts remain unchanged.
2. Excellent polishability. Cemented carbide has good polishing properties and can be processed into mirror-like die holes to ensure the high quality of the appearance of standard parts.
3. Low adhesion to metal. During the cold heading process, the ferrous metal material has little adhesion to the cemented carbide mold material, which ensures the high life of the cemented carbide cold heading mold.
4. Small friction coefficient and low energy consumption.
5. High thermal conductivity. Due to the high thermal conductivity of the cemented carbide mold, the heat generated during the cold heading process can be quickly conducted away, which improves the durability of the mold.
6. Good corrosion resistance.
Cemented carbide is also widely used in the production of cold working dies such as cold drawing dies, cold stamping dies, cold extrusion dies, and cold pier dies. Dies made of cemented carbide can better withstand impact and have better impact toughness, fracture toughness, fatigue strength, bending strength and wear resistance. Usually, the cemented carbide used in making molds is made of medium and high cobalt and medium and coarse grain grades, such as YG15C and so on.
Cemented carbide has good corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and high temperature resistance. Knives made of cemented carbide are usually well resistant to corrosion caused by atmosphere, acid, alkali, etc., are not prone to oxidation, and can remain hard at high temperatures of 900 to 1000 degrees.
The linear expansion coefficient of cemented carbide is very small, which leads to stable shape and size when it is processed.
